Eda Benjakul is a director, writer, and Emmy Award-winning producer whose work is rooted in the transformative power of story, culture, and identity. Her short Shrinking Violet follows a woman starting over in midlife, while Ugly Sweet, a coming-of-age film, explores identity and invisibility (screened at New Filmmakers New York). Caroline in the Dark, a high school dramedy told through original music, is her love letter to awkward adolescence and musical theater. She recently co-wrote and directed The Ex-Wives of Beverly Hills — a part-scripted, part-improv satire. It is an exploration of reinvention at midlife, wrapped in Beverly Hills glamour. It's a story about friendship, survival, and the absurdity and vulnerability of starting over — again. As a culinary producer, she directs unscripted action in the kitchen — making food (and sets) look pretty.
